Temperaments:
My dog doesn’t like other dogs. Can she still come?
- Dogs don’t need to be interactive with others, but we are not set up to handle aggressive dogs because our days consist of a good deal of group time and we prefer not to leave dogs alone. However, some people think their dog wouldn’t do well with other dogs because they don’t socialize them much. Let us help you decide this. Go ahead and schedule your dog for a temperament evaluation and see how she does. You might be pleasantly surprised.
What if my dog fails the temperament evaluation? Will I get charged the temperament evaluation fee?
- No.
My dog is old and I am not sure that he can handle all that play time. What can he do?
- All of our groups have beds throughout for couch potatoes. We typically have one group of senior and lazier dogs as well. We will still walk your dog outside twice a day.
My dog is small. Will he be mixed with large dogs?
We make every effort to create groups that consist of similar sizes and temperaments. Occasionally we do have large dogs with small dog personalities or vice versa. We work to make sure every dog is comfortable and having fun in the most appropriate group. But for the most part, big dogs will be together and small dogs will be together.
My dog isn’t aggressive with other dogs. He just doesn’t pay much attention to them. Would this be good for him?
- Even though your dog may not interact much with the other dogs, he’ll still get to spend plenty of time with our staff and get exercise walking outside each day.
My dog completed a temperament evaluation at your Lombard Street facility, but I need to board him overnight. Does he have to complete a temperament evaluation at your Shafter Avenue facility?
- No. Once your dog completes an evaluation at either facility, he can attend either facility.
Special Needs:
My dog needs special medication. Is this a problem?
- We all have special needs from time to time. We don’t view this as a hassle but a part of life, so we don’t charge extra and can accommodate most medication administration. We do need to be notified of all conditions, and expect specific instructions for such situations.
My dog is old. Can you shorten the walks or skip them?
- Short walks or skipped walks are not a problem. Dogs who must be walked separate from others can be done so for a fee. Inquire for details.
Pricing:
I noticed that Fog City Dogs offers some of the most competitive pricing for dog care in the city. What do I get for the price?
- At Fog City Dogs, we don’t believe in hidden fees. Our daily or nightly rate includes all of the following:
- All day playgroups
- Two outside leashed walks for about a half hour each
- Playgroup webcams
- Private boarding in suites at night
- Medication administration as needed
What discounts or promotions do you offer?
From what we can tell, our prices are already some of the most competitive in the city. However, we do have some ongoing promotions and discounts that you can take advantage of.
- Discounts for pre-paid daycare packages. Click here for details.
Vaccinations:
Are proof of vaccinations required for the temperament evaluation?
- Yes. Some illnesses like canine cough are airborne and highly contagious, so we want to make sure that each and every dog that comes in the door is protected.
My dog’s vaccinations just expired a few days ago. But I need to have my dog boarded this weekend. Can he still come?
- Call us and we can discuss options.
My veterinarian wants me to get my dog’s vaccination updates more frequently. What vaccination terms do you require?
- Your veterinarian knows what’s best for your dog. We defer to them for a particular vaccination expiration timeframe.
My dog is older and my veterinarian suggests that he doesn’t get certain vaccinations. What can I do?
- Some vets test for titers to determine if a certain vaccination is necessary. We would accept this. Also, if a vet doesn’t feel comfortable giving a certain vaccination, we simply require a signed waiver from your vet stating this exemption.
Boarding:
On the checkout date, do I have to pick up my dog by a certain time before I’m charged for another day?
- As long as you pick up your dog before we close that day, we do not charge any additional daycare fee or late fee. We calculate boarding charges by the number of nights stayed – its that simple. You can pick up your dog anytime during the day during normal business hours. Click here for our office hours.
Do you provide food for my dog or should I bring his own food?
- We encourage you to bring your own dog’s food with him in order to prevent any stomach issues that might occur by changing his diet. We do offer house food for an additional fee. But we’re sure your dog would prefer his own.
Can I bring my dog’s bed, his toys, his blanket, a few squeaky toys, a bunch of tennis balls, his own food bowl, etc?
- Remember, your dog plays in a group all day long with other dogs, and he’s going to get worn out by playing all day long. At night, he’ll probably just want to sleep. Any personal items brought in will be placed in each dog’s suite for him to have at night. Feel free to bring any bedding that is machine washable – no large foam beds or pillows please.
Other than their outside walks, what else do you do with the dogs in playgroups?
- We have lots of rope bones, tennis balls, and other dog toys that we use to play with the dogs. We always supervise playgroups, so if any dogs start to act toy possessive, we would intervene. We work to make sure the dogs to have lots of fun in a safe and controlled environment.
