Rules & Requirements

Requirements

Do you want to give your dog a fun filled play date (daycare)? Or maybe a doggy slumber party (boarding)? Just let us know the dates and which location via email : info@fogcitydogs.com or give us a call 415-642-3647 (DOGS).

Temperament evaluation:

Has your pooch ever come to play with us before? If not, we’d like to meet your best friend to make sure that she will be friendly and happy with the rest of the pack. All dogs must complete a one time temperament evaluation prior to, or on their first visit. Temperament evaluations are scheduled by appointment. They usually take less than 30 minutes and include a tour of our facility. Required forms for the evaluation can be found

here

.

Vaccinations:

To begin the evaluation you will need to provide proof that your dog has current vaccinations against rabies, DHPP, and bordetella. Please note that the bordetella vaccination is not automatically given by most veterinarians unless requested, so you will want to double check your paperwork prior to coming for the evaluation. Because we are introducing your dog to our pack, all vaccinations must be present and current before beginning the evaluation. Once you are ready to set up the time and location for the evaluation, it is best to give us a call at 415-642-3647 (DOGS).

Spayed/neutered:

All dogs over 7 months of age must be spayed or neutered.

Food (Boarding Only):

Customers should provide adequate food to last their dog’s entire stay. Fog City Dogs offers food for purchase but recommends you keep their diet the same for their stay. If your dog fails to eat, multiple attempts will be made on a daily basis. We recommend bringing extra in case your stay is extended or our measurements are slightly different. Extra/left over food will be returned. Fog City Dogs asks that you not bring bowls from home. Our dishes are washed daily and are highly durable. Your dishes may be damaged or lost in our daily cleaning regimen.

Rules

  • All dogs must be current on our three required vaccinations: rabies, DHPP and bordetella.
  • Dogs over 7 months should be spayed/neutered.
  • Flat break-away collars are required in addition to any other leasing harness or collar.
  • All new customers must complete both pages of this form. Please note, we will fill in the vaccination section. You need only bring in the documentation from your veterinarian showing required vaccination information.

FAQs

Temperaments FAQs

My dog doesn’t like other dogs. Can she still come?
Dogs don’t need to be interactive with others, but we are not set up to handle aggressive dogs because our days consist of a good deal of group time and we prefer not to leave dogs alone. However, some people think their dog wouldn’t do well with other dogs because they don’t socialize them much. Let us help you decide this. Go ahead and schedule your dog for a temperament evaluation and see how she does. You might be pleasantly surprised.
My dog is old and I am not sure that he can handle all that play time. What can he do?
All of our groups have beds throughout for couch potatoes. We typically have one group of senior and lazier dogs as well. We will still walk your dog outside twice a day.
My dog is small. Will he be mixed with large dogs?
We make every effort to create groups that consist of similar sizes and temperaments. Occasionally we do have large dogs with small dog personalities or vice versa. We work to make sure every dog is comfortable and having fun in the most appropriate group. But for the most part, big dogs and small dogs will play separately.
My dog isn’t aggressive with other dogs. He just doesn’t pay much attention to them. Would this be good for him?
Even though your dog may not interact much with the other dogs, he’ll still get to spend plenty of time with our staff and get exercise walking outside each day.

Special Needs FAQs

My dog needs special medication. Is this a problem?
We all have special needs from time to time. We don’t view this as a hassle but a part of life, so we don’t charge extra and can accommodate most medication administration. We do need to be notified of all conditions, and expect specific instructions for such situations.

Pricing FAQs

I noticed that Fog City Dogs offers some of the most competitive pricing for dog care in the city. What do I get for the price?
At Fog City Dogs, we don’t believe in hidden fees. Our daily or nightly rate includes all of the following: > All day playgroups > Playgroup webcams > Private boarding in suites at night > Medication administration as needed
What discounts or promotions do you offer?
We strive to maintain the most competitive prices in the city. Our package pricing offers significant additional discounts. Customers need only visit once a year to keep their packages active.

Vaccinations FAQs

Are proof of vaccinations required for the temperament evaluation?
Yes. Some illnesses like canine cough are airborne and highly contagious, so we want to make sure that each and every dog that comes in the door is protected.
My veterinarian wants me to get my dog’s vaccination updates more frequently. What vaccination terms do you require?
Your veterinarian knows what’s best for your dog. We defer to them for a particular vaccination expiration timeframe.
My dog is older and my veterinarian suggests that he doesn’t get certain vaccinations. What can I do?
Some vets test for titers to determine if a certain vaccination is necessary. We would accept this. Also, if a vet doesn’t feel comfortable giving a certain vaccination, we simply require a signed waiver from your vet stating this exemption.

Boarding FAQs

On the checkout date, do I have to pick up my dog by a certain time before I’m charged for another day?
As long as you pick up your dog before we close that day, we do not charge any additional daycare fee or late fee. We calculate boarding charges by the number of nights stayed – its that simple. You can pick up your dog anytime during the day during normal business hours.
Do you provide food for my dog or should I bring his own food?
We encourage you to bring your own dog’s food with him in order to prevent any stomach issues that might occur by changing his diet. We do sell high quality food at a good value. But we’re sure your dog would prefer his own food.
Can I bring my dog’s bed, his toys, his blanket, a few squeaky toys, a bunch of tennis balls, his own food bowl, etc?
Remember, your dog plays in a group all day, and he’s going to get plenty of activity and stimulation. At night, he’ll probably just want to sleep. Any personal items will be placed in each dog’s suite for him to have at night. In the interest of sanitation, please limit your dogs belongings no more than one bedding item and one toy. All bedding must be machine washable – no large foam beds or pillows please. Fog City Dogs will not assume liability for damaged or missing bedding or toys.
What activities do my dogs do in playgroups?
We have lots of play structures, rope bones, tennis balls, and other dog toys that we use to play with the dogs. We always supervise playgroups, so if any dogs start to act toy possessive, we would intervene. We work to make sure the dogs to have lots of fun in a safe and controlled environment.
